Sickle Cell Disease

Today is World Sickle Cell Disease Day

#SickleCell Disease #SCD is a genetic disease that affects millions of people. It is commonest in blacks with Nigerians being the largest number of people living with the disease.

It can result in serious illness (anaemia, bone pain etc) and death. Effective management and availability of therapeutic interventions are important. Newborn screening is an important step for early recognition and early interventions. We need to raise awareness of this disease.
