Writer: Prof Rotimi JaiyesimiProf Rotimi Jaiyesimi

Hepatitis is a viral infection of the liver that can lead to damage, cirrhosis, cancer of the liver and death.

Over 325 million people are living with hepatitis B and C globally. Both conditions are preventable, yet they continue to affect millions of lives.

Today marks the start of the Hepatitis Zero Week. There is a global action to eradicate hepatitis by 2030 The Hepatitis Zero Nigerian Commission (HZNC) led by its President, Dr Mike Omotosho, and other organisations are working hard to achieve this goal in Nigeria.

The success of this movement will depend on each individual coming forward to be screened and for governments & civil society organisations to fund the screening, vaccination and treatment.

As Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Hepatitis Zero Nigerian Commission (HZNC), I appeal to you to please support us in the fight against hepatitis.

Let’s save lives, let’s make Nigeria Hepatitis-free.
