The Lagos State Health Management Agency Bill was signed into law on 25 May 2015. The Bill mandates Lagosians to have compulsory health insurance and will become operational later this year. The Bill ensures that the poor and vulnerable will have subsidised premiums from the State Government. The Bill is a step in the right direction in achieving access for all to quality healthcare. While this is a laudable step, we hope that the execution of this programme will be effectively carried out to meet its set objectives. The funds from this scheme must be ring fenced and managed judiciously.
