MEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

October 19, 2017

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the medical term for the condition in which men have problems with erection. It is a condition that may result in loss of self esteem, infertility or marital problems.

It is quite common with over 50 percent of men over the age of 40 years having problems with achieving or sustaining an erection.

Causes of erectile problems include stress, depression, smoking, alcohol and medical problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Paradoxically, some drugs used to treat high blood pressure cause problems with erection.

ED can occur in men when the couple have been trying to have a baby for a long time. The pressure to perform may result in problems of doing so.

Rather than shy away from the problem, husbands should discuss it with their wives before it causes strain and irreversible damage to the relationship. Help is available and it is advisable you see a doctor to discuss this issue.

This could come in the form of adjusting your work-life balance, eliminating external stressors, changing your blood pressure medication, controlling medical diseases listed above and stop smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

Medical treatment for erectile dysfunction is available but this must be used under the instructions of doctors. Such drugs have have been known to cause death.
